| HooHaa has grown to be one of New Zealand’s leading mobile marketing companies in two short years. The “HooHaa” concept was initially mooted in May of 2006, when Brian Hawker, Kerry Emerson and Jason King began exploring ways to build on Kerry’s initial idea of incentivizing consumers to receive advertising on their mobile phone, to take advantage of the rapidly evolving mobile technology space and couple it with a solution to provide advertisers direct access to consumers. The result was a TAILORED Mobile Advertising system that ensures consumers only receive advertising messages that are relevant to their particular interests, activities and buying habits. This model delivers outstanding results for the advertiser, as they are talking directly to consumers who are interested in their product or service.
With mobile penetration in New Zealand at 100%, the timing was right. The key was to find a way to get the consumers excited about this concept too. By incentivising the receipt of these tailored communications, we had found a way to tempt even the most skeptic consumer into giving the service a try. 10 cents for each tailored advertisement they received. The 10 cents acted as a hook to get customers to try and when they did, they would then see the value of the deals and information they would be receiving and start to look forward more to the offers they received, as opposed to the 10 cents they earned for each one.
Looking at the mobile world around us, we believed that this was a market on the verge of explosion. It was a market that would cause a paradigm shift in the way advertisers interacted with their customers. It’s all about connectivity.
We have successfully built and developed a strong customer focused brand HooHaa, with an open, honest and customer-centric approach that has seen us capture on average 1,000 fully profiled new members every week, each one keen to experience the tailored mobile marketing experience.
Building upon strong company governance, innovative technology development, and a sound business strategy, we have already opened an Australian operation and are actively looking to the UK and Asia as the next frontiers.
Now with a profitable model and over 2 million messages sent in New Zealand using our custom built permission based mobile marketing tool, we are looking to take our ground breaking system and unique HooHaa ethos of “It pays to belong” to the next level and continue to charge head on towards our goal of being recognised as the world leader in Interactive Mobile Information (IMI). With the simple philosophy of “People don’t hate advertising, just stuff that’s not relevant to them” we developed the innovative idea of a permission based, interruptive advertising model, which became the core focus behind HooHaa.
